RNC Academy takes gold at Goalball regional competition

There was a fantastic display of teamwork at the weekend when two RNC teams - RNC Academy and RNC Hereford - participated in the Goalball UK regional competition in Birmingham. RNC Academy's Rubin, Raven, Nathan, and Shabaz put on a commanding performance, winning all four of their matches. They started strong with a decisive 10-3 victory against Birmingham Goalball Club, then a close 1-0 win against RNC Hereford, followed by wins against Oxford Goalball Club (5-2) and South Wales Goalball (3-1).

RNC Hereford's Leah, Guo Guo, Shamreaz, Jakub, and Kyron demonstrated impressive resilience. They started with a closely run 4-5 loss to New College Worcester but bounced back with a determined 4-1 win against South Wales Goalball. Their final match against Birmingham Goalball Club ended in a thrilling 6-6 draw, showcasing their fighting spirit.

It was a productive day for RNC with nine students competing and an additional three providing coaching support. RNC Academy secured a well-deserved gold medal, while RNC Hereford finished in a respectable fourth place. RNC players Kyron and Raven shared the title of top goal scorers for the competition.

This regional competition marked a successful conclusion to the season. It was a true testament to the hard work and dedication of both teams, their coaches, and the volunteers and officials who ensured a smooth-running event.
