Exploring the secrets of alchemy
A fascinating journey into the world of alchemy greeted visitors at a special event at RNC recently. This unique exhibition was organised by student Maleeka, whose passion for the subject shone brightly throughout the evening.
Maleeka had meticulously crafted tactile and sensory art pieces for each stage of the exhibition, ensuring accessibility for all and allowing everyone to engage with the concept of alchemy. Visitors explored the history, methods, and symbolism of this ancient practice, beginning with the classical elements: fire, water, air, and earth.

From the four classic elements, Maleeka guided the audience through the later additions of sulphur, mercury and salt. The section on Chrysopoeia, the quest for the artificial creation of gold, was particularly interesting.

The exhibition also highlighted the fascinating connection between alchemy and the Freemasons, explaining the significance of the letter "G" at the centre of the Masonic emblem, representing the "Grand Architect of the Universe".

The event was both entertaining and informative, taking attendees on a journey of discovery. Maleeka's enthusiasm was infectious, sparking curiosity and prompting thoughtful discussions.

Organised by Maleeka for her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), the exhibition showcased her passion for the subject as well as demonstrating her organisation, event planning, and communication skills. Maleeka was thrilled with the positive reception and said:
'This was a fantastic opportunity for me to express my interest in the ancient practice of alchemy and introduce it into the modern day. It was amazing to see people so engaged and asking so many wonderful questions. Thank you to everyone who supported me in making this event a reality especially volunteers Anastasia, Catherine, Gary, Maria and Peter. I look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.'
Maleeka's hard work made the evening a resounding success, offering a unique perspective on a very interesting subject.
