Humna Hussain, a fourth-year student at the College successfully delivered a Public Health Information Day in February as part of her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Building on her completed Level 3 qualifications in Health & Social Care and Sociology, Humna balanced work on this project with her Level 3 studies in Biology and Braille.
The idea for the event grew from Humna’s academic interests and varied work experience undertaken during her time at RNC, which included placements with a dietician, a wedding event planner, and a marketing role with Hoople.
Applying the skills she has developed, Humna took the lead on researching local health groups, managing logistics, and promoting the event to the College and thePoint4 community.
The day brought together a range of local organisations, each offering unique insights and interactive experiences. Organisations attending included:
• Hereford Food Bank
• Herefordshire Headway
• Little Princess Trust
• Macmillan Breast Cancer Nurse
• The Teddy Trust
• West Mercia Women’s Aid
A special mention also goes to the Herefordshire Board Gamers who showcased a multitude of accessible board games - an ideal way to help tackle social isolation.
The event exceeded Humna’s expectations. She commented:
‘I was very happy with how the event turned out and we had more visitors than expected. Everyone really enjoyed it, wishing they had longer to get the most from each stall. I'd like to thank all of the stall holders for the thought they put in to providing accessible resources - it made the event tactile, engaging, and informative.’
Participants echoed these sentiments. Kim Musson from the Little Princess Trust said:
‘It was so great to come up and talk to the students about what we do. We have had amazing support from RNC over the last few years, it was lovely to come and chat to those who weren't aware of us. It was also great to meet a couple of students who had received wigs from us, as well as people from other local charities. The event was well organised, lunch was delicious, I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with you all.’

Marie Edwards, a Breast Cancer Specialist Nurse, added:
‘I just wanted to congratulate you [Humna] on today. I learnt so much from the other stalls and more so from the students I met.’

As Humna prepares to finish her time at the College, she is now looking toward her future in event organising, applying for jobs, internships, and apprenticeships back home in Surrey with a wealth of new skills and a successful event under her belt.
