Conquering the great outdoors

At the beginning of July, 10 RNC students completed their final expedition over three days basing themselves at Byecross Farm Campsite on the banks of the River Wye. The group, a mix of Bronze, Silver, and Gold award candidates, tackled a variety of challenging terrains.

They kicked off Day 1 with a linear walk passing through Monnington Court. Day 2 saw them ascend Hergest Ridge near the Herefordshire town of Kington, navigating an eight-mile stretch of Offa’s Dyke. By Day 3, our remaining Silver and Gold students headed to Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, where the teams took a friendly race to the summit!

The expedition was a massive success, helped along by perfect camping weather. A special shout-out goes to Emilio, who was named ‘Camper of the Year’ for getting thoroughly stuck into the walks and choosing to stay an extra night just for the experience.
