An ability to carry out a of range of basic food preparation and cooking tasks. These skills are usually established on the Independent Living Skills programme undertaken during your first year at RNC.

The Level 1 and Level 2 awards in the Home Cooking Skills course have been designed to give you the opportunity to develop:
- the knowledge, understanding and confidence to cook meals at home.
- an understanding of how to work more efficiently when cooking a meal.
- an ability to transfer skills to different recipes.
- an understanding of safe food handling and hygiene practices that are relevant to catering.
Usually undertaken in your second and/or third year, the course is delivered in our teaching kitchen, which allows you to work individually in your own kitchen bay under the supervision of specialist teaching staff.
Sut y byddwch chi'n dysgu
A combination of individual and small group work focusing on practical tasks, underpinning theoretical learning.
Sut y cewch eich asesu
You will undertake a practical assessment task towards the end of the programme, and will be given a realistic scenario for which you have to plan, prepare and cook an appetising one or two course meal for two people.
I ble fydd yn fy arwain?
As well as the option to transfer your skills and knowledge from the classroom to one of a number of self-catering options in halls, you will also be able to take what you learn in this course away from campus and use it wherever you go. This can include cooking for yourself at home or at university and making sure you have a healthy, balanced diet, and/or cooking tasty meals for your friends and family.
